Elvin Aldus, “Al” Carey, 91, Topeka, died Friday, May 4, 2012, at a Topeka hospital.

He was born on March 15, 1921, at Valley Falls, the son of Ralph and Alice Lewis Carey. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1941.

Al worked in the maintenance department at Blue Cross & Blue Shield in Topeka for 23 years.

He married Celestine “Sally” Maxwell on June 11, 1952, in Topeka. She died on May 14, 2008. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Croll.

Survivors include a stepson, Joe Maxwell, Parker, CO; a sister, Carol Carpenter, Elm Mott, TX; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Family and friends will meet before the service from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
